Popcorn
Zea Mays
 Corn
is native to the Americas, developed by the native people of South and
North America. Popcorn has been grown for more than 5,000 years and
was used by the Incas in their ceremonies. This variety of corn has a
very hard hull and about 13 to 14 percent internal moisture. When the
kernel is heated the moisture becomes steam, the steam builds until
there is enough pressure to make the kernel pop. Plain popped popcorn
makes a healthy snack, high in fiber, low in calories, and sodium and
sugar and fat free was well.
More popcorn is produced in Nebraska than in any other state.
