Rice and beans are not only for cooking. You can also use grains to make mosaics. Use wild rice and flavored rice to spell out words.
For a heart shaped mosaic use lentils for the outer layer. Use red kidney beans for the second outline. Use green split peas for to fill the inner most part of the heart shape. Use prunes to make the final inside heart.
You can practice making your shape before putting it on cardboard. When you are ready do make your mosaic use school glue and draw a heart. Fill the heart shape with a think layer of glue. Fill your heart with green split peas first. Outline the hear with another thin layer of glue. Then outline the shape with red kidneys. And finally outline the heart with lentils.
For other types of mosaics, like a world mosaic you will need sturdy cardboard, school glue, and white rice.
First draw your mosaic out. Then use school glue to outline and fill in your drawings. Sprinkle the rice over the areas covered with glue. For best results do the mosaics in parts. Have fun!
